Ahmedabad: A 51-year-old chartered accountant was allegedly assaulted by a fellow CA at a GIFT City club on Thursday evening over a dispute linked to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) central council election. The victim suffered a head injury and required three stitches, police said.Dabhoda police registered a case of causing hurt and criminal intimidation. The complainant, Bishan Shah, who has a chartered accountancy practice in Navrangpura, alleged that Purushottam Khandelwal, confronted him at the GIFT City Club around 7.30pm. Shah was attending a CFO Elevate 2.0 meeting as a nominee of the Gandhinagar branch and had stepped out of the meeting hall to the second-floor balcony when Khandelwal approached him.According to Shah’s complaint, Khandelwal questioned him over not supporting his campaign in the election and allegedly began abusing him. When Shah objected, Khandelwal allegedly punched and kicked him, the complaint states.Shah further alleged that during the scuffle, Khandelwal pulled his legs, causing him to fall. He suffered a head injury and started bleeding. He alleged that Khandelwal threatened him again as he left the venue for treatment.Shah first received treatment at the club before going to KD Hospital in Ahmedabad, where he received three stitches for the head injury. Police sources said Shah had initially alleged a more serious offence, including an attempt on his life, but the registered case was restricted to causing hurt and criminal intimidation following intervention by members of the CA fraternity.Khandelwal is a central council member of ICAI, while Shah is the secretary of ICAI western region.
