Youth Cong workers stage protest over dengue spike in Margao

Margao: Members of Youth Congress staged a protest outside the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, on Thursday, demanding that the health department step up facilities for patients battling dengue amid a sharp rise in cases across the town. The protesters alleged that despite the steep spike in dengue infections in Margao, govt failed to provide adequate resources for prevention and treatment of the disease. They pointed out that the hospital was facing an acute shortage of beds, forcing several patients to be accommodated on the floor for want of space. While slamming govt’s handling of the crisis, the Youth Congress workers commended the hospital’s doctors and nursing staff, saying they had gone out of their way to ensure patients received proper care despite the constraints they were working under. They warned that unless immediate steps were taken, the situation could worsen further, and called on the health department to outline a concrete action plan to contain the outbreak.
