Ludhiana: Three men are under arrest following a targeted weekend shooting that left four members of a single family hospitalised with multiple gunshot wounds.Primary suspect Sagar Verma, his alleged accomplice Vishal Rana, and a local man identified only as Nikhil were taken into custody following a brief manhunt. Sahnewal station house officer, Dalvir Singh, said the three arrested men had been charged with attempted murder and unlawful assembly, alongside multiple weapons offences. The arrests follow a targeted late-night ambush in the city’s Pritam Nagar neighborhood. Police say that Verma and his associates opened fire on local resident Gurinder Singh and his relatives as they gathered in the street.Gurinder Singh’s father, Jasjeet, was shot in the stomach, while his mother, Sarabjit, survived being shot six times in the legs. His uncle, Rajveer, was shot in the leg and head, and Gurinder Singh himself was shot in the leg. All four remain in hospital.Investigators said the violence had erupted from a six-month-old loan of ₹10,000 that Verma had borrowed from Gurinder Singh. Police said Verma had stopped making interest payments three months ago and reacted aggressively when asked to settle the debt. The dispute turned digital when Verma allegedly uploaded a video targeting Gurinder Singh on Instagram, using highly abusive language. When Gurinder Singh called to confront him about the video, Verma challenged him to a late-night meeting behind his home.Gurinder Singh has told police that he reached the designated spot on his scooter at 11pm on Saturday but fled when Verma and his armed group arrived in a car and began arguing aggressively. The group chased Gurinder Singh and cornered him near his house.Gurinder called his family to the street for protection, but as his parents and uncle arrived, Verma’s associates opened fire, say police.
