Mumbai: A short circuit at a power substation within the Imperial Towers premises in Tardeo triggered a fire late Monday night, causing panic among residents who also reported repeated power outages over the past week.According to a senior BEST official, the incident was not linked to excess load on the substation but was caused by damage to low-voltage (LV) cables by a private contractor working on-site. “The contractor damaged our LV cables, leading to sparking in the substation. Two cables caught fire, resulting in heavy smoke,” the official said, adding that the blaze was promptly extinguished.BEST clarified that the contractor responsible for the damage will face penalties and be charged for the losses incurred. No injuries were reported in the incident.
