Many vacant plots encroached; Indirapuram residents write to GDA, demand action
Indirapuram Welfare Association said nearly 20% of the vacant plots in the area were illegally occupied

Ghaziabad: Residents of Indirapuram have claimed that nearly 20% of the plots allotted by Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) in the area, where buildings have not come up yet, have come under encroachment. Led by the general secretary of Indirapuram Welfare Association Sudarshan Awasthi, the residents have written to the authority, mayor Sunita Dalal and Ward 81 councillor Dheeraj Agarwal and demanded they take action against the illegal occupation.“Some of these plots have reportedly been taken over by the land mafias. These unlawful settlements can lead to serious security and hygiene issues in a residential area,” said Awasthi. He added that unauthorised electricity, water, and sewer connections are being illegally hooked up in these plots, costing the government vital revenue. Some of the key demands raised by the residents include issuing a six-month notice to plot owners to either begin construction or vacate the premises. In the absence of compliance, the association urged GDA to proceed with the cancellation of plot allotments and swift eviction measures against encroachers.“Our residents have invested heavily in their homes, spending anywhere from Rs 2 crore to Rs 2.5 crore, and it is disheartening to witness such blatant disregard for property rights and community safety,” said Awasthi. He added that the persistence of these settlements has begun to erode the quality of life in the area.Advocating for a safe and clean environment, the IWA wrote in the letter that the collective effort is the last hope for many residents who are looking towards GDA to take decisive action. They have made it clear that if adequate responses are not forthcoming, they will escalate the matter to higher authorities, including the chief minister’s office.A response from GDA is awaited.
