Aizawl: Teachers from ad hoc-aided high schools excluded from the Mizoram govt’s revised provincialisation plan held a peaceful sit-in outside Vanapa Hall in Aizawl city on Wednesday. The protest was organised by the Mizoram Govt Adhoc-Aided High School Teachers’ Association (MIGAHTA), which represents teachers from more than 90 such schools across the state. The teachers demanded withdrawal of the revised provincialisation order and scrapping of new rules that would move several previously approved schools to the Lump Sum Grant-in-Aid system.“We want the govt to withdraw the new rules. While they may offer better salaries and service benefits to teachers, they downgrade the status of our schools. We want our provincialisation status restored,” MIGAHTA president F Vanlalchhuanga said. The sit-in protest, which began on Wednesday, is scheduled to continue until Friday. The association warned that it would intensify its agitation if the govt fails to respond positively.
