Rain to return, heavy showers likely early next week

Chandigarh: After a subdued spell of monsoon activity, the city is set to receive widespread rainfall from Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh round of showers across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between July 19 and 23, with the peak expected from July 20 to 22.On Saturday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, following two days of sunshine. Minimum temperature settled at 27 degrees Celsius, while humidity remained high, making conditions uncomfortable despite the absence of rain.According to the IMD, weak monsoon conditions will persist for the next 24 hours before rainfall activity intensifies.Many places are likely to receive showers on July 20, 22, and 23, while most locations will see rain on July 21. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, exceeding 12cm, is expected at isolated locations in northern and eastern Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is also likely to witness widespread rain during this period.The fresh spell is expected to bring relief from rising temperatures. Daytime highs are forecast to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, settling at around 30 degrees to 32 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will remain between 25 degrees and 26 degrees Celsius.Cloudy skies and intermittent showers are likely to keep conditions pleasant.
