TNNLudhiana: Overnight rain brought welcome relief from the heat and humidity in Ludhiana, pushing both day and night temperatures below normal on Thursday. The meteorological department has forecast more rainfall activity in the days to come and issued a yellow alert for the district for the next four days.The sky turned cloudy on Wednesday evening and it started raining around midnight. Intermittent showers continued through the night and into Thursday morning. Although the weather remained dry later, the sky stayed overcast for most of Thursday.According to the meteorological department, Ludhiana received 8.6mm rain between 8:30am on Wednesday and 8:30am on Thursday. No rainfall was recorded between 8:30am and 5:30pm on Thursday.The rain had a noticeable impact on temperature. Maximum temperature settled at 33.2 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees below normal. However, it was 1.2 degrees higher than the previous day’s maximum temperature.The minimum temperature dropped significantly to 23.8 degrees Celsius, 2.8 degrees below normal and four degrees lower than temperature recorded the previous night, making for a much cooler start to the day.In view of the weather conditions, IMD has issued a yellow alert for Ludhiana for the next four days. The forecast warns of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph. A yellow alert indicates potentially adverse weather conditions. It calls for caution and preparedness among residents and local authorities.The weather department’s forecast also suggests one or two spells of rainfall in the city over the next six days. The likelihood of additional showers has raised hopes of continued respite from the hot and humid conditions that have persisted over the past several days.Residents welcomed the change in weather brought by the showers.“The rainfall brought much-needed relief after several days of hot and humid weather. The cooler breeze and pleasant conditions made it comfortable to step outdoors, and it was refreshing to see people enjoying the change in weather after a long spell of heat.
