Panaji: Questioning govt’s knee-jerk reaction of prohibiting two-wheelers from using the 5.1km Porvorim flyover, GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday said that govt inaugurated the Rs 641 crore project in haste.Hinting that engineering flaws and lack of traffic planning had led to infrastructure being “cursed” Sardesai said that better sense needs to prevail within govt.“I don’t want to make political capital out of a tragic accident but the fact is that Goa’s roads, the day they get inaugurated, begin to appear cursed. Was it inaugurated in a hurry? Was it in a haste? Were safeguards taken or not? This is what is causing deaths because govt is only trying to get the attention of eyeballs with events,” said Sardesai. He was referring to the supercar rally organised on the six-lane elevated corridor before its inauguration along with the walkathon and social event that was held a day prior to the commissioning of the flyover.“Govt held an event there, danced there, and people died the next day. Which meant that Goa is cursed under this govt. Govt needs to take a decision with a cool mind,” said Sardesai. When asked about his opinion about the move to prohibit two-wheelers from using the flyover, Sardesai said that bans were not the solution. “Banning two-wheelers will not resurrect the people who died. We have to see that the common man benefits from infrastructure and the common man also rides a motorcycle,” said Sardesai.
