Pimpri Chinchwad cops freeze Rs55-lakh property linked to drug trade

Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad police have frozen an immovable property worth Rs55.16 lakh allegedly acquired through proceeds from the illegal drug trade, marking the first such action by the commissionerate in 2026.The action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against the accused and his wife in connection with a case registered with the Sangvi police last year. The police had seized 55gm of mephedrone from two men. The duo was allegedly working for the accused whose property has been frozen. He had constructed a house on a 3,000sqft plot in Purandar taluka, police said. The order prohibits the accused from transferring, selling or otherwise dealing with the property without prior permission from the competent authority. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Rohidas Pawar said the action against properties acquired from the proceeds of drug trafficking would be intensified. “Depending on the nature of the offence, provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) may also be invoked against those involved in organised drug trafficking,” Pawar said.
