Court seeks police report on FIR plea against CM over ‘Hanuman remarks’

New Delhi: A Delhi court Saturday sought a report from Delhi Police on a plea seeking registration of an FIR against chief minister Rekha Gupta over her alleged remarks comparing govt officials to Lord Hanuman.Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar of Rouse Avenue Court directed the police to file its report by Oct 15, when the matter will be heard next. The court passed the order on a plea by Ram Niwas Sharma, who has sought action against Gupta for her alleged remarks made on Sept 23, 2025, during a govt programme marking the launch of DTC bus services from Delhi to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.Sharma alleged that Gupta, while addressing the programme, said: “Ye jo hamare Delhi sarkar ke adhikari hain ye sare Hanuman hain. In Hanumano ki jab tak puch mein aag lagti hai to sari apni power yaad aati hai, usse pehle bhul jaate hain. Hanuman ji mujhe yaad aaye kyonki hum Marghat Wale Baba ke dwar par baithe hain” (These Delhi govt officials are all like Hanuman. They remember all their power only when their tails are set on fire; before that, they forget about it. Hanuman ji came to my mind because we are sitting at the doorstep of Marghat Wale Baba).Sharma has alleged that the remarks, made at a public forum in the presence of govt officials and members of the public, hurt religious sentiments and sought registration of an FIR against Gupta.
