Surat: A late-night attempt to settle an argument ended in tragedy in Vesu when a man was allegedly stabbed to death by a friend who had returned armed with a knife after an earlier quarrel, police said.Vesu police registered a murder case and detained the accused, identified as Jitendra Shah.According to the complaint filed by Suraj Rajput, who runs an electrical goods shop in Hedgewarnagar, the victim, Mukul Thakur, and Shah had been visiting his shop for around eight years to purchase electrical materials.Police said on Thursday night too, Shah and Thakur visited the shop. During a conversation, Shah jokingly remarked that Rajput’s employee, Aniket, behaved more like the owner of the business. The comment led to an argument between Shah and Rajput.Thakur intervened and attempted to calm the situation. He later dropped Shah at his residence.A few hours later, however, Shah allegedly returned to the shop and resumed the quarrel with Rajput. Once again, Thakur stepped in and took Shah behind the shop to pacify him.According to the complaint, Shah had returned carrying a knife. During the exchange, he allegedly attacked Thakur and stabbed him in the neck.When Rajput rushed to help his friend, Shah allegedly attacked him as well.Residents and others nearby gathered at the scene and overpowered the accused before he could flee. A police patrol in the vicinity reached the spot shortly afterwards, and Shah was handed over to the officers.An ambulance was called and Thakur was taken to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
