Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik presented the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ medallion for excellence to Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Likha Nari Tadar at the Lok Bhavan on Monday for her contribution to improving urban infrastructure and civic services.The award recognised Tadar’s role in improving sanitation and municipal services and promoting clean-and-green initiatives across the Capital Region.Congratulating Tadar and the IMC team, Parnaik said Itanagar should aim to become a clean, hygienic and sustainable tourism hub.The governor proposed launching a ‘Zero Litter Itanagar Mission’, supported by CCTV surveillance, spot fines, public awareness campaigns and citizen-led reporting mechanisms. He also called for complete segregation of wet, dry and hazardous waste at source by households, commercial establishments and institutions.Parnaik urged civic authorities and residents to make the state capital free of single-use plastic by adopting locally sourced, eco-friendly alternatives made from materials such as bamboo and cane.He also proposed developing clean corridors connecting Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi with key destinations in the city. The corridors should have well-maintained public toilets, modern waste-disposal facilities, proper signage, landscaping and streetlights, he said.The governor stressed the need to involve local communities through ward cleanliness committees, school green brigades, self-help groups and youth volunteers to promote civic responsibility.During the meeting, Tadar briefed Parnaik on IMC projects aimed at upgrading waste-management systems, improving public amenities and strengthening civic administration across the Capital Complex.
