Onsite RMC plants now allowed within 1km of building plots

Ahmedabad: The amended policy on ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants was approved by AMC’s town planning committee on Wednesday. Under the policy aimed at reducing air pollution in the city, RMC plants can be approved within a kilometre of a building construction site. However, the plant within this radius will get the nod only if the site plot area is 7,500 sq m or smaller. For plots larger than 7,500 sq m, having the RMC on the site itself remains mandatory, according to the policy.Commercial and offsite RMC plants will not be permitted in residential areas, and only allowed on land designated as industrial, agricultural, or logistics zones. At a standing committee meeting on May 22, 2025, it was decided to relocate RMC plants from residential areas to mitigate air pollution. The committee wanted the plants to be shifted within two months. On Sept 15, 2025, AMC issued a policy governing RMC plants within city limits, making approvals mandatory before setting up onsite or offsite plants. Offsite (commercial) plants were prohibited in residential and commercial zones, with permissions restricted to industrial, general agricultural, prime agricultural and logistics zones. Onsite plants were strictly limited to the final plot of the construction site itself. Suggestions and objections to the draft policy were invited and the approval was granted on Wednesday.
