CM Yogi to open 5th ROB in Gorakhpur this year

Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed rail overbridge (ROB) at Bhopa Bazar in Chauri Chaura, marking Gorakhpur’s fifth major elevated road project to be inaugurated this year.Built at a cost of Rs 59.44 crore, the 649.04-metre-long overbridge is expected to ease congestion in one of the district’s old commercial hubs and improve connectivity between Gorakhpur and Deoria.Since January, the CM has inaugurated four major elevated road projects in Gorakhpur— Gorakhnath ROB, Bargadwa-Nakaha ROB, Khajanchi crossing flyover and the six-lane flyover on the Tippi Nagar-Padleganj road.Bhopa Bazar, an important trading centre in Chauri Chaura, had long faced traffic congestion due to the closure of railway level crossing No. 147B. Commuters, traders and visitors often had to wait for trains to pass, disrupting movement through the busy market area. The state government subsequently decided to construct an ROB to address the problem. The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation completed construction of the overbridge in September. Its general manager, Mithilesh Kumar, said a 60-metre steel bowstring girder had been constructed over the railway section. The overbridge is expected to facilitate smoother movement between Bhopa Bazar and Sonbarsa, while improving access to the historic Chauri Chaura Martyrs’ Memorial and National Highway 727A, which connects Gorakhpur and Deoria districts. The structure also commemorates the historic Chauri Chaura incident of Feb 4, 1922, which holds an important place in India’s freedom struggle. Murals depicting the martyrs and their contribution to the movement have been painted on the bridge’s pillars and walls. The artwork aims to familiarise younger generations with the region’s historical legacy and honour those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence.
