GEL, GTL pay record Rs 384.7cr dividend to Gujarat govt

Gandhinagar: Two state govt undertakings, Gujarat Energy Ltd (GEL) and GSPL Transmission Ltd (GTL), have paid a record dividend of Rs 384.7 crore to Gujarat govt for 2025-26, marking the highest-ever single-year payout by state-controlled companies.Chief minister Bhupendra Patel received the dividend cheques from GEL managing director and GTL vice-chairperson Avantika Singh in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. Energy and petrochemicals minister Rushikesh Patel, minister of state Kaushik Vekariya and chief minister’s principal adviser Hasmukh Adhia were present, an official statement said. The payout comprises Rs 324 crore from GEL and Rs 60.7 crore from GTL. Chief secretary Manoj Das, chairman of both companies, described the payment as “a historic moment for both GEL and GTL”.The record dividend follows a scheme of arrangement implemented on May 1 under which Gujarat Gas Ltd was renamed GEL after the integration of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) into it. GSPL’s gas transmission business was transferred to the newly named GTL.The restructuring significantly increased state govt’s shareholding in both entities. Its stake in Gujarat Gas, previously around 6%, rose to approximately 38% in GEL, while it acquired a similar stake in GTL, where it previously had no direct shareholding.Gujarat Gas had paid state govt Rs 81.6 crore cumulatively over three years from 2022-23 to 2024-25.
