Noida: A severe teacher shortage has kept classes 11 and 12 shut at Govt Inter College in Dadri for nearly a year, leaving students unable to enrol despite repeated enquiries. The school has 150 students in classes 6 to 10 — 80 girls and 70 boys — but just four teachers to manage them.The school, which started in May last year, has 14 classrooms and five well-equipped laboratories. It has an infrastructure that can support over 500 students.The institution has a requirement and vacancies for 20 teaching posts. “Out of these, 10 posts are for lecturers, seven assistant teachers, two junior teachers and a principal. Four teachers from other colleges have also been attached to the school to help meet the immediate requirement but the shortage remains,” the current principal Sangeeta Rani said.The prolonged vacancy has also prevented the college from functioning as a full-fledged intermediate institution despite its name and infrastructure. Several students and parents have approached the college seeking admission to classes 11 and 12, but have had to look for other schools after being told that the classes could not be started.A Class 10 student from Badalpur village wants to study at the newly opened inter college. “There are not many good high schools in the village. I want to pursue a BSc from a good college, so I need to do well in school,” she said. “My family will not allow me to go far for my studies, and we cannot afford a private school. That leaves a govt school as my only option, but the inter college in Dadri does not provide high school classes.”The education department said proposals for 20 posts for the college, including a principal, 10 lecturers and seven trained graduate teachers, have been sent to the state. Two junior assistants and two fourth-class employees have also been proposed. Officials said filling these posts would enable the institution to start classes 11 and 12 and allow students to continue their education on the same campus after class 10. “However, the recruitment is only possible when the state starts the process,” Noida’s district inspector of schools Chandra Sekhar said.
