Bathinda: Punjab reported one fresh stubble burning case on Saturday, taking its tally to 73 and its share of the 203 farm fires reported across six states so far to nearly 36%, as Madhya Pradesh closed in with 66 cases. Uttar Pradesh was a distant third with 55 cases.Stubble burning has so far been reported in 52 districts, including 10 in Punjab. Amritsar and Tarn Taran have recorded the highest number of cases in the state.Amritsar reported 44 crop residue burning events, followed by Tarn Taran (13), Ferozepur (5), Gurdaspur (3), Moga (2), and Faridkot, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar and Patiala with one each.With farm fires increasing, penal action has also begun. In Punjab, one FIR has been registered under Section 223 of the BNS for disobedience of an order issued by a public servant. Environmental compensation of Rs 1.15 lakh has been imposed in 23 cases, of which Rs 45,000 has been recovered.
