Chennai: A minor girl who visited a private hospital in Tiruvottiyur for treatment of diarrhea delivered a baby girl in the hospital toilet on Tuesday. The newborn was later declared dead and had bruises on the face. The minor is undergoing treatment at Govt RSRM Hospital in Royapuram.Police said the girl, a resident of Ennore, had concealed her pregnancy from her family. She visited the private hospital complaining of diarrhoea and went to the toilet. When she failed to come out for a long time, hospital staff grew suspicious and repeatedly knocked on the door.When she finally opened the door, the staff found that she had delivered a baby girl. As the minor was unwell and the newborn showed no signs of movement, both were rushed to Govt RSRM Hospital in Royapuram, where doctors declared the infant dead.Police said injuries were found on the newborn’s face. Preliminary inquiries revealed that a youth from Thazhankuppam impregnated her. Tiruvottiyur police are investigating.
