Over 400kg substandard sweets destroyed in Sirsa

Hisar: In a major crackdown on adulterated food products, a joint team from the Food Safety Department raided an illegal sweet-manufacturing factory in Sirsa and seized approximately 400 kg of contaminated sweets, officials said on Monday. Investigation revealed that the unit was reprocessing stale and spoiled barfi by crushing it and mixing it with other ingredients to prepare fresh batches for sale. The raid exposed severe hygiene violations and non-compliance with statutory norms.Official inquiries established that the factory operator, identified as Siddharth, was operating without a valid licence or registration from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Inspecting officers found swarms of flies, filthy utensils, and raw materials including sugar syrup, milk powder, and semolina (sooji) on the premises. To prevent the hazardous stock from reaching consumers, health officials buried the seized sweets in a pit. According to officers, the operator confessed to grinding old sweets and blending them with sugar syrup, semolina, sugar, and various vegetable oils before packing them in attractive wrappers to deceive buyers.
