It was a fun-filled affair for the city’s women doctors, sans stethoscopes, prescriptions and patients. At the Lehariya Utsav hosted by the ladies’ wing of the Jaipur Medical Association, the seminar hall, usually buzzing with seminars and workshops for medical professionals, wore a completely different look, as it was decked up with flowers, balloons and lehariya dupattas.

‘We celebrated the traditional charm of Sawan and Teej’Dressed in multi-coloured leheriya saris and suits, relishing ghewar, getting their hands adorned with mehendi and giggling like college friends, it was an evening to remember, as the doctors enjoyed a welcome break from their daily routine. The fun-filled party gave them a chance to unwind and take some time out from their busy schedules. Dr Madhu Gupta, one of the coordinators of the event, shares, “The event brought together women doctors to celebrate the traditional charm of Sawan and Teej while taking a refreshing break from their demanding professional schedules.” Dr Geeta Ahuja, co-host, adds, “Such celebrations create opportunities for interaction, camaraderie and well-being within the medical fraternity.”‘Such celebrations strengthen professional friendships’There was more to the event than just good food and great conversations. The real fun started when the doctors hit the dance floor. After a long and tiring working day, they merrily grooved away to hit Bollywood numbers. The evening also saw retired medical professionals having a gala time. Dr Neelam Bapna, who had a great time dancing with the young doctors she had taught some 30 years ago, says, “It’s a kind of nostalgia for me to reconnect with my old students, who are now successful doctors. The Lehariya Utsav also provided an opportunity for the doctors to relax, celebrate their cultural heritage and strengthen professional friendships beyond the hospital and clinic.”
