Rajkot: The Border Range police in Bhuj busted an alleged gambling den operating from a farmhouse on the outskirts of Dhunda village in Morbi district’s Tankara taluka and arrested nine people. They also seized Rs 24 lakh cash along with vehicles and other property valued at around Rs 45 lakh.The raid was carried out on Saturday after a Border Range team from Bhuj led by sub-inspector A P Vaghela received a tip-off while patrolling in Morbi district that an illegal gambling den was operating from bungalow no. A-3 in Om Villa by a 49-year-old man.Acting on the information, the team raided the bungalow and found the accused along with eight others allegedly engaged in gambling. During the operation, police recovered more than Rs 24 lakh in cash and seized two four-wheelers and other property, taking the total value of the seizure to nearly Rs 69 lakh.Preliminary investigations revealed that all eight gamblers were residents of Morbi district. Police alleged that the accused had organised the gambling sessions by inviting participants to the bungalow and charging them a commission for facilitating the games.A case was registered against all nine accused at Tankara police station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Gambling Prevention Act. Further investigation was under way to ascertain the extent of the gambling network and whether similar operations were conducted from the property earlier.
