Ahmedabad: The application process for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in private schools concluded on Thursday. This year, nearly 2.5 lakh applications were received for more than 84,000 seats available under the 25% RTE quota across the state. The period for filling out forms was initially set from April 4 to April 17, but was later extended by six days following requests from parents, resulting in an additional 44,000 applications.Under the RTE Act, students from economically weaker and middle-income families are granted admission to 25% of seats in private schools. A total of 9,722 private schools are participating in the process this year. By the original deadline, around 2.06 lakh forms were submitted, which has now increased to 2,49,946 after the extension. This marks an increase of over 11,000 applications compared with last year’s total of 2,38,942.With application window closed, authorities have begun verification process at the district level. Applications rejected due to missing or incorrect documents will be given another chance, with parents allowed to upload the required documents between April 27 and April 29. The final verification process will continue until April 30.The first round of seat allotment will be announced on May 4. Despite the increase in applications this year, the total number of available seats decreased by approximately 9,000.
