Mumbai: The Sakinaka traffic police seized a motorcycle and lodged a complaint against its owner after his minor son was allegedly caught riding without a licence at excessive speed in Sakinaka on Wednesday. Police constables Sanjay Sarjerao Magar and Gopal Patil were on duty to take action against traffic violations on Saki Vihar Road when they stopped a 15-year-old boy riding the bike at 11.55 am. The rider Yusuf Sarfaraz Kadri was driving rashly and negligently on the western lane, endangering himself and others.A Maharashtra govt-issued birth certificate produced by Yusuf’s father recorded his date of birth as Oct 29, 2011, confirming he was a minor. A Sakinaka police officer said the father was aware his son had taken the vehicle and had been penalised. If found guilty, he faces three years’ imprisonment and a Rs 25,000 fine. The juvenile will be barred from obtaining a learner’s licence until he turns 25 and faces relevant fines under the Act. Legal proceedings will be handled by Juvenile Justice Board.Sub-inspector Sandeep Chavan contacted the boy’s father, Sarfaraz Farukh Kadri, and asked him to bring the child’s birth certificate, Aadhaar card and vehicle registration certificate to Sakinaka Traffic Police Station.Kadri told police that he owned the motorcycle and that his son did not have a driving licence. Police alleged that Kadri had knowingly permitted his minor son to use the vehicle. “The motorcycle was seized under Section 207 of Motor Vehicles Act. Kadri was taken to Sakinaka Police Station for further legal action, and constable Magar lodged a formal complaint against him,” said the police.
