Shillong: Meghalaya govt has invited the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) leadership for talks on its five-point charter.CM Conrad K Sangma on Monday said a letter was sent to KSU, and the govt awaited a response.KSU alleged that the July 31 hearing on Shree Cement in East Jaintia Hills was pre-arranged and sought action against police and Meghalaya Pollution Control Board officials.It demanded implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016, until an Inner Line Permit system is introduced, and the amended Meghalaya Migrant Workmen Act, 2020.Other demands include NEIGRIHMS reforms, an 80:20 nurse gender ratio, reservation for Khasis, Jaintias and Garos, removal of interviews for Grade B, C and D posts, and recruitment-board SOPs.A KSU black-flag rally on Aug 19 turned violent, and 18 passersby were assaulted and 31 vehicles, including eight registered in Assam, were damaged. Netaji’s bust and Vivekananda’s statue enclosure at RR Colony were vandalised.
