Jalandhar: Police have identified several suspects involved in arson, rioting and looting during the protests at Lovely Professional University over the weekend, but haven’t given out any names.The violence broke out between Saturday night and late Sunday night following rumours of the rape-suicide of a female student. The university was vandalised, property smashed, and shops inside the campus mall looted of laptops and electronic gadgets.According to police, the suspects identified so far include some alumni residing near the campus. Police are also investigating several social media influencers, including former students, for allegedly inciting the crowd.Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora confirmed the progress in identifying a few accused, adding that a separate investigation remains underway into a rape case registered based on complaint of students.
