Lucknow: Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) sealed SA Apartment in Wazirganj on Tuesday after damage to a pillar caused wall cracks and strong vibrations, forcing the evacuation of all 25 families.Residents were evacuated on Monday after the pillar developed cracks and vibrations resembling an earthquake were felt. Police and SDRF and NDRF teams reached the site, and the area was barricaded as a precaution.LDA has begun stabilising the building with heavy-duty hydraulic jacks to prevent further damage. The contractor said the affected portion measured about 12 metres by 12 metres. Multiple jacks, each capable of bearing up to 90 tonnes, are being installed. The temporary support will allow residents to retrieve their belongings safely.LDA has assigned the building’s technical assessment and retrofitting to PWD and Setu Nigam. Engineers will inspect the structure and recommend strengthening measures. The authority will also inspect other multi-storey buildings in the area as a precaution.LDA records show that Shahabuddin submitted the building plan on May 25, 2009. It was approved on Aug 12 that year, and the apartment was constructed in 2010.Resident Mohammad Israr said his wife narrowly escaped when the pillar gave way. She was on the balcony and moved to safety as it shook violently. District authorities said temporary accommodation would be arranged if required during the safety assessment.
