Ponda: Abrupt land filling at Bondbag, Bethora, along the Curti-Borim bypass road has left a thick layer of wet soil on the carriageway, making the stretch slippery and hazardous for commuters.Residents have demanded action against those responsible and said the road should be cleaned at their cost.Mangaldas Gaude, former Bethora panch member, said the mud could cause a serious accident and suspected that two-wheeler riders may have already skidded on the stretch.Ponda-based activist Viraj Sapre, who first noticed the condition and alerted police, said action should also be taken against officials who granted permissions for the land filling.Police brought in fire tenders to wash the road, but the mud remained stuck to the surface and the water pressure was insufficient to clear it.
