Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) city unit on late Tuesday caught a private individual who allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe on behalf of a police constable in connection with passport verification work.The ACB arrested Sanjit Kumar, who allegedly collected a bribe of Rs 1,000 for police constable Basavaraj Gwaminath Dhamgunde attached to Khar police station. Kumar and Dhamgunde under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.The complainant had applied for the processing of his daughter’s passport. The constable initially demanded Rs 2,000. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 1,000.Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB office at Worli. During verification conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, the allegations were confirmed.In the subsequent trap operation, Dhamgunde allegedly instructed the complainant to keep the bribe amount in a cupboard near a vehicle parked nearby. Acting on his directions, Sanjit Kumar allegedly collected and kept the money, following which he was caught red-handed by the ACB team.
