Pune: District Collector Jitendra Dudi on Friday asked PMRDA and MIDC to formulate integrated solutions to curb increasing traffic congestion, the poor state of internal roads and last-mile Metro connectivity in Hinjewadi IT Park.He spoke at the first meeting of the high-powered committee formed to address issues in Hinjewadi. His office also released a detailed statement after the meeting on Friday.Speaking at a separate event in Pune on Friday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “My friends, who have been in IT from Hinjewadi, always complained that they have no life here. And that was true. But let me tell you, our team has taken this responsibility, and they have created a fantastic plan. We will start implementing in two months, and things will change in two years. Pune would be one of the sought-after urban area to live and work.”The statement from the Collector’s officer stated that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) would prioritise dedicated and safe integrated transit for Metro, public transport, pedestrian and cycling facilities and last-mile connectivity, rather than focusing solely on road repairs.PMRDA has floated a proposal to establish a network of connecting roads and various transport facilities to ensure residents can travel to and from Metro stations. Around 19km of roads are proposed for last-mile connectivity. Of this, 7.2 km will be developed by PMRDA and 12 km by MIDC.The statement read that authorities would develop approach roads within a 500-metre radius of the Metro stations, up to 1.5 km. The proposal included paved footpaths, cycle tracks, tactile paths, safe road-crossing facilities and streetlights.PMRDA would take the necessary steps to develop six development plan (DP) roads across Hinjawadi, Maan, and Marunji villages. These roads would integrate pedestrian facilities, cycle tracks, and public transport, while also accounting for future traffic volume.Dudi also sought a report from all the agencies on whether bus depots could be established at alternative locations, in addition to utilising available land for bus depots, to develop integrated bus service.The road DP is a comprehensive measure which would include stormwater drainage systems, proper planning for water supply and sewage lines, dedicated utility corridors for electrical and optical fiber cables and allocated space for gas pipelines.Additionally, the Pune collector asked Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to submit a report regarding the land required for a new substation. The department stepped in to enhance security in Hinjawadi with artificial intelligence (AI)-based CCTV cameras and better monitoring of traffic violations.
