Chandigarh: Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday demanded an impartial probe into the murder of Ajay Kumar in Abohar and an FIR based on the statement the victim allegedly gave police before his death.Jakhar addressed the media outside the Punjab assembly alongside Ajay’s mother and other family members, who had gathered to seek justice. Police later detained the protesters. Jakhar said he would bring the family to the assembly every day to ensure their voice reached the “deaf govt”. BJP MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma was also present.Ajay was shot in Sant Nagar, Abohar, on Sept 27 and died on Oct 19 after undergoing treatment for critical injuries. His family has been protesting in Abohar, alleging that his postmortem has not yet been conducted.Ajay’s family said his brother had testified in the 2015 Bheem murder case, following which Shiv Lal Doda and his nephew were sentenced to 20 years in prison. They alleged Ajay was murdered after Doda’s recent release on bail. Jakhar alleged a deeper conspiracy and accused Aam Aadmi Party’sArvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia of patronising criminal elements. He also questioned the provision of armed security to a person convicted of a serious crime and subsequently released on bail, demanding that the basis for providing govt security be investigated. Jakhar claimed Ajay had given police a clear statement before his death, but no FIR had been registered on its basis. He demanded that the statement be taken seriously and that strict legal action be taken against anyone found involved.Questioning Punjab’s law-and-order situation, Jakhar said the govt was responsible for protecting people who raised their voices against drugs and criminal elements. He appealed to chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure justice for Ajay’s family and action against those responsible.
