Kolkata: Panihati BJP MLA Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar rape-murder victim, said it was public negligence that had led to the Chorbagan stampede that killed 19 people. Debnath was visiting the family of 13-year-old Pranjal Sarkar, who died in the stampede.“People’s mentality needs to change. A child was crushed and six more people fell on top of him, while others continued to run over them. The incident occurred due to human negligence. People think only about themselves,” she said.Debnath praised CM Suvendu Adhikari for the Bengal govt’s response after the stampede. “The CM met families of all those killed and injured in this incident and extended all possible assistance to them,” she said.After meeting the 13-year-old’s mother, Debnath said she had tried to console her. “Just as I have continued working after having lost my daughter, I tried to help his mother understand how to cope with the pain,” she added.ENDS
