Mumbai: ‘Nipun’, the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, is scheduled to be commissioned into Indian Navy at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard on Aug 31, a defence spokesperson said.It is the second DSV constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Visakhapatnam, and was delivered to Indian Navy on July 30. The defence spokesperson said the induction of INS Nipun represented a significant enhancement in Indian Navy’s deep-sea diving, underwater intervention, and submarine rescue capabilities.The ship was equipped with state-of-the-art dive equipment and had the capability to undertake deep-sea saturation diving. A side diving stage was also provided for undertaking diving operations. “The Remotely Operated Vehicles further enhance the ship’s operational capabilities by facilitating diver monitoring and salvage operations,” the official said.The official said the ship would also serve as the mother ship for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) to evacuate personnel in case of an emergency in a submarine. The vessel, with nearly 75% indigenous content, was highly specialised and was capable of undertaking deep-sea dive operations and rescue operations at sea.
