Mumbai: The city crime branch on Sunday arrested 34-year-old Kolkata resident Aman Bhola Singh in connection with alleged unauthorised routing of international VoIP calls through SIP/Trunk lines, causing an estimated loss of more than Rs 2.5 crore to the govt of India. Police said Singh had approached the sessions court and Bombay High Court seeking anticipatory bail, but both applications were rejected.Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had detected unauthorised use of a SIP/Trunk connection allegedly operated in the name of Maindoeuvre Solutions LLP. The company was allegedly routing incoming international calls through an unauthorised VoIP setup and terminating them as local calls. DoT said international calls are required to pass through authorised International Long Distance (ILD) gateways. Bypassing the prescribed route not only results in revenue loss but also prevents lawful monitoring and regulatory supervision of international communications, posing a potential national security concern, the police said.
