Mumbai: Alleging that girls residing in hostels for tribal students in Pune have been subjected to pregnancy tests and other medical tests after returning from extended leave, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has sought CM Devendra Fadnavis’s intervention. He said in an open letter that such practices are an attack on students’ dignity and humanity. Gandhi, who met some tribal students during a visit to Pune last week, said hostels for such students are “unsafe” and often lack food, sanitation and medical care. “Students have suffered injuries and deaths, including from snakebites. Facilities for women are worse.” He asked Fadnavis to have a meeting with tribal students to address their problems. Gandhi is expected to visit Nashik this weekend for a Congress workers’ training camp.
