Noida: A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband and three associates in Mamura village last month over suspicion of an illicit relationship. Her body was dumped in a canal in Dadri and was recovered from Surir in Mathura on July 31. The man and two of his aides have been arrested while another accused, the woman’s brother-in-law, remains absconding.According to police, the case came to light after the man’s first wife approached the Phase 3 police station on Aug 20 stating that his second wife had been missing for several days. The complainant, Kanti Devi, told police that she had married Subhash Chandra, a resident of Pootha Aika village in Firozabad, in 2013.She said that Subhash married another woman two years after his first marriage. His second wife was also named Kanti. In 2021, Subhash allegedly prepared documents for a court marriage with the second woman, after which the first wife filed a case against him.According to the complaint, the first wife became suspicious when Kanti went missing for several days. She said she also noticed that Subhash’s brother Deepak had been frequently visiting him. She suspected that Subhash and Deepak had killed the woman. Her suspicion deepened after Subhash allegedly threatened her with dire consequences.Police subsequently questioned Subhash after taking him into custody. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing Kanti on July 27 at Mamura village in Sector 66. He allegedly strangled her to death before her body was loaded into a tempo and taken to a canal near Kot Bridge under the Dadri police station area.The body was later recovered from a canal in the Surir area of Mathura district.Subhash, along with his alleged associates Sarvinder and Neeraj, has been arrested. Deepak, who was also named as a suspect, remains on the run.Investigators are also examining the alleged motive and the sequence of events leading to the woman’s death, including the husband’s suspicion regarding her alleged relationship with another person.
