GBA chief tells officials to repair Kanteerava Studio Road promptly

Bengaluru: Days after a massive crater on Kanteerava Studio Road drew public attention, GBA chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials Thursday to immediately repair the pothole-ridden stretch.During an inspection of various locations in west Bengaluru, Rao visited the road and reviewed the condition of the damaged carriageway, which local residents and commuters have long complained about. He instructed engineers to expedite the pothole-filling and ensure that the remaining damaged portions are repaired at the earliest.According to BBMP officials, pothole-filling work is already underway on one side of the road. Engineers informed the chief commissioner that, weather permitting, repairs on the remaining portion would be taken up during the night. The inspection comes amid public outrage over the condition of Kanteerava Studio Road between Surana College and Nandini Layout, where a deep crater had recently emerged after heavy rain.Apart from reviewing the road repairs, Rao also inspected the proposed Jalahalli Cross underpass project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area. Officials informed him that 48 properties are required to be acquired for the project, of which 22 have already been acquired. Rao directed officials to expedite acquisition of the remaining 26 properties and begin construction at the earliest. He also instructed officials to construct a service road on land already acquired for the underpass project to facilitate traffic movement before the main works commence.Rao directed officials to fast-track the planned white-topping of a 2.5-km stretch from NTTF via Sonal Garments to TVS Cross Junction. He said the work should begin soon after ongoing BWSSB pipeline-laying activities are completed.During the inspection, the chief commissioner also ordered the clearance of waste dumped along roadsides in Peenya Industrial Area and called for measures to prevent fresh dumping at the location.
