Panvel civic body to pay Rs 22.8 crore and take over 51 schools in Raigad ZP
The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) general body has approved a proposal to take over 51 schools of Raigad Zilla Parishad (RZP) by paying about Rs 22.8 crore. These school plots and structures are collectively worth Rs 55 crore.

Navi Mumbai: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) general body has approved a proposal to take over 51 schools of Raigad Zilla Parishad (RZP) by paying about Rs 22.8 crore. These school plots and structures are collectively worth Rs 55 crore.The PCMC general body had in Feb 2021 passed a resolution to take over the RZP schools and a plot in Koynavele. A committee headed by the additional chief engineer, RZP, was formed in 2022 for valuation of the school properties. The committee did the valuation of anganwadis, gram panchayat buildings, schools, community halls, health sub-centres, fish market, among others.The amount has been finalised after adjusting about Rs 22 crore towards the stamp duty receivables and Rs 10.42 crore expenditure incurred on the schools. At the time of payment, the exact amount after evaluation may be changed.The PCMC has a provision of Rs 40 cr in its 2026-27 budget to take over RZP schools. The resolutions passed by the RZP with its relevant documents will be validated by the joint director, town planning, Konkan division. The final amount will be decided upon receiving the report from the divisional town planning department. The PCMC general body has given a green signal to take over the schools.The Panvel civic body will handle the education of the children enrolled in these schools, and the teachers and staffers, after completion of the formalities. A long-standing conflict between the two govt agencies has been resolved.
