Varanasi: A 25-year-old man, allegedly linked to nearly a dozen cases registered in different districts, including under the Gangsters Act, cow slaughter laws and gang rape charges, was arrested after he sustained a bullet injury in his right leg during an encounter with Gambhirpur police in Azamgarh district on Monday night.Acting on a tip-off, police reached the spot and came across armed miscreants, leading to an exchange of fire in which accused Vishal Yadav, a resident of Kishanpur Kashinath under the Gambhirpur police station area, sustained a bullet injury in his right leg. He was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.Police said an illegal country-made pistol, cartridges, a knife, a chopper and a calf were recovered from his possession.According to police, another miscreant escaped under the cover of darkness during the encounter. Police teams are conducting raids at suspected hideouts to trace and arrest him.
