GURGAON: Fazilpur Badli village officially opened its newly transformed 3.15-acre ‘Amrit Sarovar’ (model pond) on Wednesday, following a virtual inauguration by Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. Built at a cost of Rs 64.88 lakh, the modern water conservation site is designed to serve a dual purpose: harvesting rainwater to recharge depleting water tables and acting as a vibrant social hub for the local community. Moving away from just basic stone-lining, the rejuvenated site features a modernized model structure aimed at preventing village sewage from mixing with freshwater, ahead of the fast-approaching monsoon season. Addressing the gathered villagers, MLA Bimla Chaudhary stressed that while the government funded the infrastructure, the long-term survival of the project rests entirely on local ownership. “These lakes will only succeed if the village panchayats and residents take direct responsibility for their upkeep,” Chaudhary said, urging locals to maintain the cleanliness and greenery of the newly developed complex. The district administration plans to use the revamped lake premises as a center for rural cultural events, environmental awareness drives, and public gatherings. To prevent immediate damage during the heavy rains, instructions have already been issued to the Panchayati Raj engineering wing to ensure proper drainage and waste filtration channels around the lake are fully functional.
