Surat: A fire broke out at a warehouse of a resin manufacturing unit in Dahej GIDC on Monday, sending a thick plume of smoke into the sky and triggering panic in the heavily industrialised chemical cluster. No casualties or injuries were reported.The fire erupted around 6.15am at Vision Product Pvt Ltd after chemicals stored in the warehouse caught fire. The blaze quickly intensified, producing intense flames and dense smoke that was visible from a long distance, officials said.Firefighting teams from Dahej rushed to the site and launched operations to contain the blaze. After several hours of efforts, the fire was brought under control around 11am. However, smoke continued to emanate from the affected area, prompting firefighters to carry out extended cooling operations to prevent any flare-up.“The fire was controlled by 11am, but smoke was spotted inside the gutted area, due to which cooling procedures were continued till evening,” said Dinesh Gamit, deputy director of Industrial Safety and Health.Officials said materials stored in the warehouse and a storage tank were completely destroyed in the fire. “No injury has been reported in the incident,” Gamit added.The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and review safety measures at the site.
