Behrampore: Sagardighi MLA and industrialist Bayron Biswas was stable on Sunday following a fire at his Dhulian residence.Biswas’s brothers Nipon and Milton, who were away for work, returned to Dhulian after learning of the incident.Milton said: “His condition has improved and he was able to eat a light meal of rice and fish broth. He suffered burn injuries below the knees on both legs and on his left hand. He was resting at the time because his blood sugar levels had dropped. An air conditioner caught fire, and though he was weak, he attempted to douse the flames before staff and family members helped pull him to safety.”Milton added that the family plans to shift Biswas to Kolkata for further treatment and trauma counselling, as advised by doctors. Addressing media reports regarding family disputes, Milton clarified that the family remained united and dismissed such speculation as baseless.The fire broke out on Saturday morning on the second floor of the house, where Biswas was alone in his room. His other family members were on the ground and first floors at that time. Seeing heavy smoke, family members and staff rescued Biswas and admitted him to a private nursing home run by his family.Jangipur SP Surinder Singh visited the MLA at the nursing home. Police have requested a report from the fire department and are awaiting forensic science laboratory findings to determine the exact cause of the fire.
