Ahmedabad: On the lines of international airports in Mumbai and Delhi, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad is set to get dedicated entry and exit routes. Sources privy to the development said an elevated corridor has been proposed from Indira Bridge Circle to Flag Circle at the airport to bypass city traffic at Ummed Circle while entering the airport premises.The proposed corridor will separate airport-bound vehicles from traffic on the busy airport road. A detailed road network plan has been prepared by the airport operator, following which initial rounds of meetings were held with civic body officials, a source confirmed.The corridor has been divided into three stretches — one within the airport boundary and another from Flag Circle to Indira Bridge Circle. Finalisation of the third stretch is still under way and is expected to comprise two bridges across Sabarmati and ramps extending towards Indira Circle on the Gandhinagar side.

“The approach road from airport circle carries significant traffic, not just that of people moving from Gandhinagar and Hansol towards Shahibaug but also the other way round. This is over and above regular passenger traffic towards the airport. The existing arrangement results in airport-bound and through traffic converging on the same road,” the source told TOI.Conservative estimates suggest that at least 14,000 cars move in and out of SVPI airport premises daily. Sources told TOI that the plan also involves land currently under the ministry of defence.In Oct 2025, TOI reported that AMC and airport authorities were examining probable elevated corridors and alternative approach roads to address congestion around the airport. However, a more detailed road network plan is now being worked out, which also includes provisions for an airport cargo logistics centre and connections towards Indira Circle.
