Ahmedabad: The Abhayam 181 women helpline received more than 10 calls since the start of Navratri from women and girls seeking assistance in reaching home after being unable to find transport.“These calls were made by women and girls who repeatedly tried to book cabs or hire autorickshaws, but could not get transport because of the distance or the location,” a counsellor said.In one such case, three women who had attended an event at a party plot on the Kathwada-Singarva Road were stranded when they came out around 2am and failed to find a vehicle to take them home. They subsequently contacted the helpline for assistance.Officials said most such interventions have involved locations on the outskirts of the city or in industrial areas where transport options are limited late at night.Counsellors said women facing similar situations can also contact the 112 emergency helpline for police assistance. Ahmedabad police have appealed to women to remain vigilant and ensure their safety while participating in the Navratri festivities.
