Ahmedabad: The district education officer (DEO) has issued a show-cause notice to the management and principal of Shri Jaymanben Dave and Sheth Shri Hirabhai Kanya Vidyalaya in Maninagar, following complaints alleging that the school’s approved educational campus was being used for commercial and other non-academic activities.The action follows a complaint received by DEO’s office regarding the alleged use of the school premises for garba practice and other activities unrelated to regular academic work. According to preliminary information available with the education department, various non-academic activities were being conducted on the school premises at different times.DEO’s office has sought an explanation from the school management regarding the alleged use of the school building, classrooms and playground without permission from the education department or the competent authority.Under the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Act, schools registered under the education system must comply with prescribed regulations, and the school management and principal are responsible for ensuring adherence to the rules.DEO has asked the school management to submit complete details and supporting documents regarding the activities allegedly conducted on the campus. The school has been asked to provide information about all non-academic, cultural and commercial activities, along with certified copies of any permissions obtained from the competent authority or education department.The DEO has also sought details of any rent, fees, donations, or other payments collected for such activities, along with relevant accounts and receipts.The school has further been asked to clarify whether these activities affected students or disrupted regular academic work.DEO has directed the school management and principal to appear in person at the DEO office on Sept 28 with the required documents and evidence. The notice warns that failure to appear at the scheduled time may result in further unilateral punitive action under applicable rules, treating the matter as one in which the school offers no further explanation.
