Pune: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday launched “Hakkache Shahar” initiative, providing a political platform to people to highlight the infrastructure issues of every city in the state.Congress has formed an “urban transformation group” for the coordination of the initiative, launched on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary (Aug 20). It will take up issues in all cities after connecting with citizens.Sangram Khopade, the state convener for the initiative, said, “Every citizen faces hardships because of the poor or lack of infrastructure in every city, but other than complaining in a closed circle, they cannot do much to change the situation. Therefore, we decided to give a political platform to common citizens through this initiative, where we would collectively make efforts to bring a positive and long-term change.”Residents from major cities, including Mumbai, Pune and Nashik, have been complaining about pothole-ridden roads, traffic snarls, poor waste management and other urban infrastructure issues. Congress would try to address these issues through the “Hakkache Shahar” initiative.“We want to bring long-term changes and improve planning through this initiative. We will engage a lot of experts and citizens to improve every city’s infrastructure through a political movement,” Sangram said.
