Children charred to death in shed in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Two children of a daily-wager couple were charred to death in their makeshift shed at Narayanapura, Kottanur, Monday afternoon.The deceased are D Arjun and D Asha. Their parents, Durgappa and Savitri, were at work at an under-construction site when the incident took place around 1.30pm, police said.“The children’s grandmother was in the bathroom when the two were playing in the hall. Suddenly, a fire broke out and spread quickly. Neighbours and others tried to rush in and save the kids, but in vain. Due to smoke and burns, Arjun died instantly while Asha succumbed en route to hospital,” an investigating officer said.Scene of crime officers (SOCO) said the fire could have started from an inflammable material like a cigarette lighter or mosquito coil. “There were lighters and scattered pieces of coils. It looks like one of these materials caused the blaze,” an officer said.Rider dies as sports bike skidsA 20-year-old hotel assistant succumbed to head injuries after his sports bike skidded off the road near Chikkajala early Monday morning. The deceased, Lakshay Kumar, from HRBR Layout, was riding towards Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) after finishing work post-midnight.Police said while passing Vidyanagar bridge at 4am, his bike skidded off and he fell on the road.
