Varanasi: Sigra police raided a brothel allegedly operating under the guise of a guest house in the Maldahiya area on Sunday night and detained nine persons, including five sex workers.Those arrested included two guest house operators and two customers. Police also seized objectionable articles and guest register from the premises.Sigra police station in-charge Shivakant Mishra said a case has been registered against them under relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The five sex workers, four from Kolkata and one from Mahoba, were later allowed to leave.During interrogation, the guest house operators allegedly confessed that they had rented the building for Rs 63,000 per month to run the racket. They told police that women were brought from Kolkata and other districts to entertain customers in the guest house rooms and were also sent to other hotels on demand.Police said the racket charged customers between Rs 1,000 and Rs 7,000 for its services. The women allegedly told investigators that they received only one-fourth of the amount paid by each customer.
