Ahmedabad: Residents of a housing society in Chandkheda were allegedly assaulted by a bootlegger and his associates after they objected to an illegal liquor den operating in the locality. Chandkheda police have registered an FIR against four people and launched a search to apprehend them.The incident occurred at Shubhlaxmi Prahlad Park Society on Sunday night. According to the police complaint, residents were opposing the alleged liquor trade in the area for several months, claiming it drew anti-social elements late into the night and created safety concerns, particularly for women and children.As repeated verbal objections allegedly failed to stop the activity, residents held a meeting on Sunday and decided to collectively approach the bootlegger and demand that the liquor den be shut down.Police said the situation turned violent when the residents confronted the bootlegger. He allegedly summoned his associates, following which a group armed with sticks and other weapons attacked the residents. Women who tried to intervene were also allegedly assaulted by the accused.The attack created panic in the society, forcing residents to run to safety. Chandkheda police reached the spot after receiving information, but the accused had already fled.Based on the complainants’ statements, police registered an FIR against Dharmendrasinh Padhiyar, Vishvaraj Padhiyar, Pruthvi and Kishor under sections related to assault, rioting and criminal intimidation of the BNS. Investigators said efforts were underway to trace and arrest the accused.In their complaint, residents demanded strict action against those involved in the attack and sought closure of the alleged liquor den operating in the residential area. Police said the role of each accused and the circumstances leading to the clash were being verified.
