Ludhiana: A stray dog mauled a one-year-old boy as he lay outside his family’s hut at Khanna grain market early Thursday, leaving him with more than 10 deep wounds on his head, neck and other parts of his body. Following initial treatment at Khanna Civil Hospital, doctors referred the child to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be serious.Sources said the incident took place around 6am when the child was lying outside the hut. His parents were working nearby.A man heard the child’s cries and rushed to his rescue.The child’s family said the boy suffered more than 10 deep wounds to his head, neck and other parts of the body. He was rushed to Govt Hospital in Khanna, where doctors provided initial treatment before referring him to Patiala.The child’s father, Kallu, and other relatives said they had not anticipated such an attack. They alleged that the area had been facing a persistent stray dog problem.The family urged the administration to take immediate measures to catch stray and aggressive dogs in the area and prevent similar incidents in the future.Harsh Bhalla, a social activist, flagged the growing number of stray dogs in Khanna.
